Place North West recently met up with Cllr David Meller, cabinet member for economy & regeneration, to discuss the council’s visibly active and exciting redevelopment plans.
Stockport is undergoing a considerable transformation and with the Mayoral Development Corporation plans and ambitions in place, Stockport will see some amazing changes in the residential, retail and transport offering.
Investment in the Town Centre has brought developers such as Capital & Centric, Glenbrook and Muse who are active in the transformation along with global businesses now occupying space including global chemical company BASF and online retailer musicMagpie.
“The MDC has been fantastic for us as it has given us that status and presence,” said Meller.
“It came with risk as we were one of the first to do it, but it has given us a national profile.”
As well as boosting development, the MDC has done something even more impressive: it has acted as a soothing balm for Stockport’s often fractious political environment.
